The central government has sent notices to all e-commerce companies, including American online retail giant Amazon and Walmart's Indian affiliate Flipkart. They have been asked why they are not providing necessary information, including the Country of Origin (which country is the country in which they are made), on goods sold from their platforms. According to sources, this notice has been sent to the e-commerce companies by the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Food. Companies have been granted 15 days' time to reply.

According to the notice, the department has received information that many e-commerce companies are not providing legally necessary information on goods sold through their digital platforms. In the notice sent to Flipkart India Private Limited and Amazon Development Center India Private Limited, the department stated that they are e-commerce entities and they have to ensure that legally binding information is provided on the products. According to the notice, these two companies have not provided legally binding information on the products and thus have violated the law.
